| The Brussels Office of the Association of Municipalities of Estonia and the Association of Estonian Cities was opened on 13 October 2005 so as to work proactively and promote the joint interests of Estonian local authorities in EU legislation, funding and policy as well as to provide a direct communication channel to EU institutions, organisations and networks.
The main tasks of the Permanent Representative in Brussels are: 1) to represent the Association of Municipalities of Estonia and the Association of Estonian Cities and present their positions in Brussels; 2) to participate in meetings, conferences, seminars and information events to gather information on current and future policies, legislation and programmes from EU institutions with direct implications for local authorities; 3) to provide Estonian local authorities up to date information on EU developments of specific relevance for them, incl via a weekly Newsletter; 4) to develop cooperation with other local and regional representations in Brussels; 5) to coordinate the work of the Estonian members of the EU Committee of the Regions; 6) to organise meetings and seminars in Brussels for representatives of national associations of local authorities; 7) to offer support in building transnational partnerships.
